Synopsis:

One night they can't forget...

Tess McMann lives her life according to the secrets she's sworn to keep: the father who won't acknowledge her, the sister who doesn't know she exists, and the mother who's content playing mistress to a prominent businessman. When she meets the distractedly cute Dylan Kingsley at a prestigious summer program and falls in love, Tess allows herself to imagine a life beyond these secrets. But when summer ends, so does their relationship -- Dylan heads off to Canton College while Tess enrolls at the state university.

One love they can't ignore...

Two years later, a scholarship brings Tess to Canton and back into Dylan's life. Their attraction is as strong as ever, but Dylan has a girlfriend…who also happens to be Tess's legitimate half-sister. Tess refuses to follow in her mother's footsteps, which leaves her only one choice: break the rules she’s always followed, or allow Dylan to slip away for a second time.

...And only one chance to get things right

My review:

Oh my golly gosh where should I start!?

At a young age Tess find out that her father has another family. His "real" family. Her mom has been having an affair with her dad for years and Tess if a result of that affair. Tess soon learns to keep her existences a secret. Especially from her half-sister. As long as no one finds out about the affair or about Tess, her father provides her with anything she needs. More than anything, Tess just want to do things on her own and not depend of her father.

At age 18, she saves up to go to a summer program for science majors and there is where she meets the adorable Dylan Kingsley. She falls in love and that's when she starts to imagine a life without those secrets she holds. She knows that can never be, so when summer finally ends, so does what they had. Fast-forward two years later and Tess gets a scholarship to her dream school, Canton College. Tess knows that Dylan goes to the same college, but thinks she won't run into him, little does she know that they both have the same major, bio-engineering. Tess feels the old sparks come back but little does she know that Dylan is dating her half-sister. Tess refuses to follow in her mothers footsteps, so she tries hard not to let her feeling for Dylan get in the way.

Coming into this I though that this book would be some cutesy chessy story. I thought I knew how this book would end, but it went in a totally different direction (in a good way of course). I realized that I could somewhat relate to it because my family went through something similar, but in my case I guess I would be Tess' half-sister, Hannah. I loved the way Viv Daniels portrayed Tess (super smart and independent). I also loved the way Viv wrote Dylan: smart, dorky, HONEST, but with a little sexy too (THE. PERFECT. GUY) ;) I especially liked the way she portrayed Tess' half-sister because I envisioned her mean and bratty, but Hannah's nothing like that. Her father on the over hand...that man is a total douchebag! Overall I really loved reading One & Only and I cannot wait to read the second book in the Canton series (Sweet & Wild) aka Hannah's story (Tess' sister)!
